RECREATIONAL PROGRAM
New England Academy of Gymnastics’ Recreational Class Program is designed for boys and girls ages 6 and up who want to learn gymnastics in a fun, supportive, and structured environment. Classes are thoughtfully divided by gender, age, and ability level to ensure appropriate skill progressions and an optimal learning experience for every gymnast.
Our experienced and enthusiastic coaches create a positive and motivating atmosphere where gymnasts are encouraged to build confidence, set goals, and enjoy learning new skills. Whether a child is brand new to gymnastics or has previous experience, placement by ability level ensures continued growth and success.
This program is ideal for gymnasts seeking a recreational experience without the commitment of competitive training, while still receiving high-quality instruction in a supportive setting.
Girls Classes
Athletes are introduced to skills on all women's Olympic events - vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor. Classes are divided by age and ability to ensure an optimal learning environment. Instruction focuses on proper technique, safety, strength, flexibility, and coordination, allowing each gymnast to progress at their own pace while building a strong foundation.
Girls Beginner 1
A great place to start for first-timers, or students moving up out of a preschool gymnastics program. Students will be introduced to full-sized apparatus, and will learn foundational skills, terminology, and safety on bars, beam, floor and vault.
Girls Beginner 2
This class is designed for students who have shown proficiency at the beginner 1 level. Students should be able to independently execute a proper cartwheel, bridge, and basic rolls at this level, as well as be comfortable crossing the high beam, rotating around the bar, and understand proper use of a springboard.
Girls Intermediate
Students at this level should be able to perform a 1-handed cartwheel, and properly execute a backbend and bridge-kickover on an incline. An independent pullover on the bars is recommended for this class, as well as a 30-second handstand hold against a wall, as more advanced bar circles, and inverted vault skills are introduced.
Girls Advanced
Our advanced students are mastering their front and back walkovers, and are performing roundoffs fluently. This class begins to work more dynamic skills such as front and back handsprings, as well as handspring style vaults, and independent circling skills on bars. Registrations for this class must be done through the front desk. New students who may be eligible for this class, please contact the front desk to set up an evaluation.
Boys Classes
Athletes are introduced to skills on all men's Olympic events - floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars, and high bar. Classes are mixed level, and grouped by age to ensure an optimal learning environment. Instruction focuses on proper technique, safety, strength, flexibility, and coordination, allowing each gymnast to progress at their own pace while building a strong foundation.
